EMS River Freed

Pirates have released a Barbuda-flagged vessel hijacked on December 27 last year, the European Union Naval Task Force Somalia (EU-Navfor) has reported.

The M/V Ems River was in the Indian Ocean at the time of the attack. Eight crew members, including seven Filipinos and a Romanian, were on board.

The EU-Navfor said that the vessel was released March 1.

It said: “According to the owner of the vessel, all crew members are well and unharmed.”

The vessel came from San Nicolas, Greece and was en route to Jebel Ali in United Arab Emirates when the pirates attacked it
