Cash Pledge

South Korea has pledged US$500,000 to the international trust fund aimed at combating piracy off the coast of Somalia, according to Seoul’s foreign ministry.

The contribution was announced at a session of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, last week.

The UN trust fund is set to be used to expand a courthouse and prison in Somalia to prosecute captured pirates. However there have been concerns on the budget, and on whether there would be sufficient funds to achieve the goals required by the UN.
