IMDEX Asia 2011, Anchoring Asia Pacific’s New Wave of Maritime Growth

The return of Asia Pacific’s only dedicated Maritime defence show promises to be the biggest and the best

20 April 2011 – IMDEX Asia, Asia Pacific’s largest dedicated international maritime defence show will make its highly anticipated return from 18 to 20 May 2011 at the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) in Singapore. In its eighth edition this year, the show promises to be the best yet, living up to its tagline of “Forging New Partnerships” by bringing together the highest number of high-profile industry players, international VIP delegates, Chiefs of Navy, senior military and defence officials and government representatives in the show’s history.

A month before the opening ceremony of IMDEX Asia 2011, Experia Events Pte Ltd, the show’s organiser, and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), have confirmed the attendance of more than 35 Naval Chiefs and Vice-Chiefs, and Coast Guard Directors-General from countries such as Australia, Brunei, China, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, United Kingdom and United States of America. The number of Chiefs of Navy and Directors-General in attendance is more than double that of the previous IMDEX Asia in 2009, which attracted an impressive attendance of 17 Chiefs of Navy.

To date, IMDEX Asia 2011 will also see the participation of 18 warships from countries such as Australia, France, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and three ships from the RSN. The 18 warships will be berthed at the RSN’s Changi Naval Base.

Mr Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Experia Events Pte Ltd said: “It is gratifying to see IMDEX Asia being recognised as the key platform for leading maritime industry thought-leaders and highlevel official delegations to come together for the exchange of insightful perspectives and networking opportunities, especially given Singapore’s role as a hub for the fast-growing Asia Pacific Maritime Defence industry. We look forward to the valuable contributions at the various activities and conferences organised at IMDEX Asia and the prolific discussions on pertinent maritime industry issues. Through IMDEX Asia, we also look forward to being the conduit for industry players and Navies to build new partnerships and strengthen existing ones.”

As Asia-Pacific’s leading international maritime defence show, IMDEX Asia will also be featuring more than 150 exhibitors, setting a new high in the number of exhibitors participating and proving the strong relevance of IMDEX Asia in the international maritime defence industry. The exhibition will showcase an extensive range of cutting-edge technologies by manufacturers and providers of naval equipment, products, systems and services. Returning exhibitors from the 2009 show include major industry players Atlas Elektronik, DCNS, Lockheed Martin, MBDA, MTU, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, ST Marine and ThyssenKrupp Marine, while joining the show are first-time exhibitors MJP Waterjets, General Dynamics Canada, Broady Flow Control and KVH Industries.

Besides facilitating the latest procurement opportunities, IMDEX Asia will also host two high-level conferences, the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) and the Naval Technology Seminar (NTS), and two scenario-driven maritime exercises, the Western Pacific Naval Symposium Maritime Security Exercise (WMSX) and the Maritime Information-Sharing Exercise (MARISX). These conferences and exercises will bring together key maritime defence industry stakeholders to facilitate high-level information exchange and to forge strong working partnerships.

International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) and the Naval Technology Seminar (NTS)

Held in conjunction with IMDEX Asia 2011 will be the International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) and the Naval Technology Seminar (NTS), two conferences which seek to share strategic and insightful information and know-how on naval and maritime affairs.

The IMSC, a platform for Navies, Coast Guards, maritime experts and industry leaders to work together and develop solutions-based concepts to security issues at sea, is co-organised by Experia Events Pte Ltd and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) with the support of the RSN. This year’s conference theme of “Safe & Secure Sea for All, by All”, will cover Partnership and Cooperation in the 21st Century and Functional Maritime Cooperation and Future Trends in the Asia-Pacific.

The NTS, Asia’s premier naval technology forum, is jointly organised by Experia Events Pte Ltd and the Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA), with the support of the RSN and government-linked research institutions. This year’s seminar will focus on the theme of “Enabling Technologies, Advanced Capabilities”, bringing to light the partnership approach and cross-domain innovations among research and defence institutions that will mark the advances in technology for naval applications.

The Western Pacific Naval Symposium Maritime Security Exercise (WMSX) and the Maritime Information-Sharing Exercise (MARISX)

Also at IMDEX Asia 2011, the RSN will host the 4th Western Pacific Naval Symposium Maritime Security Exercise (WMSX) and the Maritime Information-Sharing Exercise (MARISX).
