Mother Mandate
Leading shipowners have called for navies to be given a firm mandate to immobilise pirate motherships used to launch attacks on commercial shipping vessels.
Owner associations the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Shipping Federation (ISF) said ships were now being attacked in the Indian Ocean on a daily basis and some 600 seafarers were currently being held hostage for ransom.
