Data Disrupted

In developments which are causing concern to the scientific community, pirates have been attacking research vessels and shooting up a number of research buoys.

This has had a devastating effect on surface wind observations used to predict summer monsoons in India.

Oceanic measurements have been faithfully collected for over 100 years, but the pirates are affecting the long term record keeping.

Far from being random attacks, there are some who believe the pirates may be targetting the data buoys so as to halt the spread of wind speed data to security and naval forces.

Attack map data often contains wind speed information, so by stemming this flow of information, the pirates could be deliberately trying to conceal the areas in which they are able to operate their attack skiffs.
