Restricted Visibility

Thick dust blew has been blowing off the coast of Somalia and over the Gulf of Aden in early August 2011.

The NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the dust plumes which are thick enough to completely hide the land and ocean surface below.

They appear to arise within about 50 kilometers (30 miles) off the coast, with a cloudbank over neighbouring Djibouti.
