The regional forum of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) has expressed concerns about the importance of peacefully solving disputes in the East Sea. 

ASEAN Forum Reiterates Maritime Security Importance

The regional forum of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) expressed here reiterated concerns about the East Sea, and the importance to peacefully solve disputes for the good of security of all regional countries. Top officials from the Defense Ministries of the 27 States attending since 1994 the meeting called this weekend for restraint the parties involved in the current conflict of sovereignty about Paracel and Spratly islands in the mentioned waters, and listen to opinions from the international community.

After clearly alluding China and Vietnam, they advocated for implementing the statement about behavior of the parties in the East Sea and advance towards a peace code and stability in the region, to guarantee maritime security, exploitation of natural resources, and economic development according to international law.

The Forum also dealt with the safe use of nuclear energy, so it encouraged the nations to participate in international treaties and mechanisms, complete domestic legal structures, and build training and technological assistance centers.
