British security worker dies in Kenya
A British man believed to have worked in maritime security has died after a night out in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa.
The man, reportedly in his 30s, collapsed when about to board a vessel in the Mombasa port, after returning in the early hours following a night spent with friends. Police are treating the death as suspicious.
“The man died a few minutes after being dropped by the tuk tuk [rickshaw] they had hired from Casablanca nightclub,” Port Police Deputy Commander Kipkorir Rotich told The Daily Telegraph.
According to witnesses, the man’s friends said he had been robbed of all his personal belongings in the nightclub, including his money and ATM cards, suggesting that he may have been drugged.
“I know that twilight girls [prostitutes] always target foreigners in some nightclubs. The sailor might have been a victim,” said Mohamed Marowa, Head of Security at Kenya Ports Authority. “But we must wait for the post-mortem.”
Several people, including two tuk tuk drivers, have been questioned in connection with the incident.
