The Iranian government has announced plans to allocate parts of the Chahbahar port in Iran to Afghan businessmen.

Afghan traders to receive land plots in Chahbahar port

Iranian government has announced its agreement to distribute lands to Afghan businessmen at the Chahbahar port in Iran, where they would store their imports before transporting them into the landlocked country.

Commerce and Industries Minister Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi said in a press conference that Iranian government has allocated 50 hectares of land for storage of transit goods and will charge 25 AFN per square meter annually.

The lease rate would remain unchanged for a decade, the minister said, and after that the rate may be subject to a slight change.

Minister Ahadi said 10 companies have so far requested for purchase of plots in the port, and work plans for four of the companies have been sent to the ministry.

He added that almost 10 hectares of lands have been distributed and upon the request of the traders, more plots of lands would be made available to them.

With regards to the distribution of land in the industrial zone of Sher Khan Port, Minister Ahadi said, “Forms for the distribution of land in Sher Khan Port will be distributed by the Ministry’s Office of Transit. The first priority will be given to the businessmen. The exact price of the lands is not yet confirmed.”

Situated 60km from the city of Kunduz, Sher Khan Port forms part of the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Sher Khan Bandar is a border town and a port in the Kunduz Province of Afghanistan, next to the Panj River near the border with Tajikistan.
