Maritime Agency Gets 6 New Boats

PORT KLANG: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) received a boost to its security and enforcement ability in Malaysian waters when it received six new patrol boats.

MMEA’s Southern region Chief Maritime First Admiral Adon Shalan said the additional new patrol boats would further bolster its operations against encroachment of neighbouring authorities in local waters.

He cited several cases where neighbouring authorities, especially from Indonesia, had prevented local fishermen from fishing in Malaysian waters.

“I am not sure of the exact number of cases but there have been an increase of such incidents recently, especially during the last two weeks.

“We have filed a protest already and also held several talks with them (the Indonesian authorities).
