Oil and gas industry tends to operate in regions with politically and economically challenging circumstances, but there is pressing urgency to review their security strategies.

Critical oil security issues to be addressed at IRN’s Oil & Gas Security 2013 Summit, 11th-12th June, London

With oil and gas industry known to operate in regions that face politically and economically challenging circumstances, IOC’s have become accustomed to working in high risk areas. However, with recent incidents in multiple African regions including Algeria, Somalia, Libya, Nigeria and some past incidents in Middle East, the actual danger of operating in high-risk sites with major hydrocarbon potential has been highlighted more than ever in recent months, with pressing urgency for oil and gas companies to review their security strategies.

The Oil & Gas Security 2013 Summit brings together Heads of Security of significant IOCs including OMV, Qatar Petroleum, Total Nigeria, GDF Suez Algeria, Pakistan Petroleum, ADNOC, and BG Tunisia to discuss how better control measures can be implemented. Security experts from the French Foreign Office and DG Move European Commission will also join the two-day meeting to share their insights. Issues to be discussed include security risk mitigation of vital oil and gas infrastructure, security strategies to avoid sabotage, maritime terrorism and negotiations, best terrorism prevention practices, security regulations, ways to handle hostility, bribery and thievery from local communities, analysis from recent incidents and many others.
