Dryad Maritime Intelligence Win Major Shipping Industry Award

Dryad Maritime Intelligence cemented its position as the UK’s leading maritime intelligence provider after their Fleet Security Management service clinched the IHS Safety at Sea Management and Operations award at a ceremony held on board HMS Belfast in London last week. It is the first major accolade that Dryad has won and maintains the businesses’ strong start to 2013 which has seen a period of steady growth with the opening of new offices in Hastings, ongoing recruitment and the appointment of David Hunkin, OBE as Commercial Director.

“We are very proud and honoured to have received this prestigious award. To achieve such recognition in the maritime security industry is the culmination and proof of the hard work that everybody at Dryad Maritime Intelligence has put into the business over the past 12 months and, indeed, the past six years. We will continue to implement initiatives that will drive forward and improve the quality and provision of intelligence and services that preserve life at sea”, commented Managing Director Graeme Gibbon Brooks.

The annual awards were attended by more than 100 shipping industry executives who came together to honour companies and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the maritime safety industry in the last year.

The judges worked to a strict criteria in the Management and Operations award category; entrants had to clearly demonstrate their initiative to improve safe working practices and attitudes either onshore or aboard ship.

Nick Blackmore, IHS Managing Editor, “Our judges considered Dryad’s Fleet Security Management service a very practical tool and noted that it was used quite widely by several leading operators. With piracy high on the IMO agenda the service looks like a viable alternative providing a combination of knowledge to individual ship managers seeking optimum sailing routes”.

The award’s sponsor, Inmarsat, who were represented by Peter Blackhurst on the judging panel said that the FSM service was a step in the right direction towards improving maritime security.

“The calibre of entries in the Management and Operations category was exceptionally high. Dryad’s entry stood out because it had all the right ingredients. Their Fleet Security Management service identified a real need within the shipping industry for a product which thoroughly understood the risks and threats of operating in the maritime environment. The judges were in agreement; Dryad’s approach to handling and applying intelligence in the commercial sector through the FSM service marked another welcome step for the industry toward improving and safeguarding lives and vessels at sea”, Peter Blackhurst, Inmarsat.

Dryad Maritime Intelligence was shortlisted alongside strong competition including Green Management Ltd and Anglo Eastern Ship Management from nearly 100 entrants before an independent panel judged Dryad’s Fleet Security Management service the winner.

The Management and Operations award honoured the development of Dryad’s Fleet Security Management service which is specifically designed to significantly reduce risk at sea while identifying and realising cost and carbon saving on behalf of users through route optimisation, comprehensive safety monitoring and security contract negotiation.

Dryad’s Chief Operating Officer Karen Jacques also attended the awards ceremony and attributed the success to her dedicated team.

“The success of our operation comes from selecting and building a highly experienced and capable team who are always striving for improvement. We remain committed to developing market leading and award winning services such as our Fleet Security Management product and we are very proud to have this commitment recognised by this award,” Karen Jacques, Chief Operating Officer.
