EU Naval Force And NATO Force Commanders Meet At Sea Off The Somali Coast

On the 15th of August the Force Commander of the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR), Commodore Peter Lenselink, visited the Force Commander of NATO counter-piracy Operation Ocean Shield, Commodore Henning Amundsen, on board the NATO Flagship HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen.

Both operations are working to counter the threat of piracy off the Horn of Africa and in the western Indian Ocean.

The meeting between the Force Commanders and delegations from both Flagships, was possible because the EU NAVFOR Flagship HNLMS Johan de Witt and NATO Flagship HNoMs Fridtjof Nansen were operating in neighboring areas off the Somali coast.

The meeting gave the Force Commanders the opportunity to discuss and strengthen the continued co-operation between their forces, enhance information sharing between the two operations, and ensure the optimal deployment of counter-piracy assets.

Both Force Commanders agreed that close co-ordination between the two counter-piracy missions is critical to efforts to eradicate piracy off the coast of Somalia.
