Security provider Result Group has become the first company licensed by the German authorities to carry out vessel protection on German flagged vessels

Result Group GmbH, from Grünwald near Munich, has become the first maritime security service provider licensed by the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) to carry out vessel protection on German flagged vessels.

Following a series of stringent checks and controls, on 1 November 2013 BAFA licensed the Result Group to provide a full range of security services to vessels operating under the German flag.

The managing director of Result Group, Mr Andreas Radelbauer, commented: “We regard the licence as confirmation of our tried-and-tested services and many years of experience in this internationally oriented field.”

BAFA licences will be required for protecting ships under the German and other flags on the high seas against piracy or other dangers as of 1 December 2013.

The newly introduced licensing procedure was ratified in March 2013 and inaugurated in June. It represents what to date is internationally the unique government licensing of maritime security service providers.

The law was established under the supervision of the Ministry for Economics in response to pressure from German shipping companies which had increasingly fallen victim of maritime crime including the seizure of vessels off the Horn of Africa.
