Heroin haul leads to terror link

AHMEDABAD: The investigations into the seizure of 1,023 kg heroin worth Rs 1,600 crore from near the coastline of Kenya have revealed that the drug trading was meant to generate funds to spread terror.

The cops suspect that the Kenyan coastline was the new route developed by the drug mafias. However, the sources from the Indian intelligence agencies said that the drug consignment, which was loaded in Salaya’s dhow from near the Pakistan coast, might have been used for terror funding. “The Australian Navy suspects that the drug consignments loaded from Pakistan and routed through the Kenyan water could be source for terror outfits for raising funds,” said a Gujarat police official on condition of anonymity.

Sources from the intelligence agencies who are in constant touch with the Australian Navy and the Kenyan authorities said that the heroin might have been sent from Afghanistan-Pakistan border and then brought near Jivani port to be smuggled into European countries.
