Navy destroys 509 illegal refineries in first quarter

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Usman Jibrin, on Wednesday said the navy has arrested several vessels suspected to be engaged in crude oil theft and other illegalities between January and April 2014.

He said the fight against pipeline vandals led to the destruction of over 509 illegal oil refineries, 35 barges, 406 big wooden boats and 10,868 auxiliary equipment, among others.

Jibrin stated this in Calabar, the Cross. River State capital, while presenting his keynote address at the commencement of Navy Week Conference 2014 held at Tinapa Lakeside Hotel.
