Increasing numbers of illegal firearms are being shipped into Mauritius, reports from the Indian Ocean republic indicate.

Le Défi newspaper quoted a local criminal as saying, “It’s very easy to get weapons.”

The man said that weapons were mostly smuggled from overseas through the port.

In the same report, former police commissioner Raj Dayal suggested that weapons are smuggled inside containers of fish.
