Another S.E. Asia hijacking

ReCAAP have released details of a new hijacking off the Malaysian coast on July 4th. According to the report, the Honduras-flagged product tanker, Moresby 9, was boarded whilst underway approximately 34nm from the Anambas Islands at 1938 LT on July 4th, in position 03:23.32N-105:08.90E.

The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) sent out alerts to the regional naval forces and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency was placed on standby, although they do not cover the area where the incident occurred. Indonesian naval assets were deployed to the location but were unable to locate the tanker.

The shipping company has now re-established communications with the vessel, but it is not currently known what took place while the ship was under pirate control or how much of its 2200mt cargo of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) remains on board. We await full details of the incident.
