More than 300 East African regional defence and military experts will in mid-July this year convene a strategic meeting aiming at discussing security challenges facing the region in the wake of increased maritime piracy, terrorism threats and rebel force activities in the region.

According to recently released information by the Land Forces East Africa event director, Tracey-Lee Zurcher said that a two day meeting expected to take place in Dar es Salaam from July 15th up to 16th, and will be officiated by Tanzania’s Minister of Defence and National Service, Dr Hussein Mwinyi.

“The Tanzanian People’s Defence Force (TPDF) is a key partner in the meeting whereby the governments in the region are eager to arm themselves, not just with knowledge but also with equipment to strengthen their defence infrastructure,” says Zurcher,

According to her, with recent political turbulence and an increase in maritime piracy and rebel force activity surrounding East Africa, local armed forces are facing the need to rapidly increase landward defence and security capability as well as humanitarian support capacity.
