Country needs a lead coordinator to ensure maritime domain security.

‘Dedicated adviser needed for maritime security in country’

PUNE: Vice Admiral Satish Soni, chief of Eastern naval command, on Thursday highlighted the need for the appointment of a dedicated maritime security advisor at the centre to work as lead coordinator for maritime and coastal security matters.

“Coastal security involves multiple agencies both at the Centre and the states. The requirement for a lead coordinator at the Centre needs consideration. The complex nature and the large canvas of maritime security makes it a compelling case for the appointment of a dedicated maritime security advisor,” he said at a seminar on ‘Security management of India’s seaborne traffic and offshore installations’, organized by the Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF) here on Thursday.
