Nigeria: ISPS Code Compliance – 58 Port Facilities Risk Losing Patronage

With only 22 ports facilities already compliant with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, 58 more face possible sanctions from NIMASA in the coming weeks as moves are in place to withdraw maritime services from non-compliant facilities. ANDREW AIRAHUOBHOR reports.

Ports facilities in Nigeria that have not complied with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code will soon become abandoned as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is set to withdraw all maritime services from such facilities.

NIMASA is the Designated Authority (DA) for the administration of ISPS Code in Nigeria, and has said in a recently published marine notice that it has exhausted all intermediate measures to compel deficient port facilities to address all indentified areas of non-compliance with the ISPS Code without success.
