Japan, ASEAN to boost joint antiterrorism efforts

NAYPYITAW (Jiji Press) — Leaders of Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations agreed Wednesday to enhance their cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

“Terrorism and transnational crime pose serious threats to peace, stability and economic prosperity of ASEAN, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole,” the leaders said in a joint statement adopted at their meeting in Naypyitaw, the capital of Myanmar.

The leaders agreed to enhance cooperation to combat piracy and cyber-crime.
