Navy to Adopt New Strategies against Maritime Security Threats

The Nigerian Navy is set to adopt strategies to reduce to the threats to maritime safety within the Nigerian territorial waters to the minimum.

The Naval Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Rear Admiral Ameen Ikioda, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the press briefing to herald the upcoming Chief of Naval Staff annual conference for 2014 (CONSAC 2014).

Ikioda said the emerging security threats in the maritime space require urgent measures to tackle them, therefore need to develop “policies and strategies that would reposition the Navy for enhanced operational efficiency.

“In order to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing security environment, especially in interconnected maritime environment, it is vital that the Nigerian Navy pursues a vibrant transformation agenda.

“This would reposition the Navy to respond adequately to current and emerging security threats in our maritime domain”, he added.
