IMSA to Close

Training company to close doors.

Independent Maritime Security Associates to Close

Independent Maritime Security Associates (IMSA) is ceasing trading.  The organisation, based in Poole, has been one of the better established specialist maritime security companies with a pedigree spanning back to 2002

Over the last five years the maritime security sector has become volatile with a number of unregulated groups entering the market, providing ship owners with second-rate and often dangerous ‘solutions’.  The extension of the Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) and Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) qualifying dates has also led to a slump in demand for such training.  Both factors have caused several maritime security companies both large and small to withdraw from the market.

IMSA’s Managing Director, Chris Ashcroft said ” IMSA has been at the forefront of maritime security training since the introduction of the ISPS Code, and subsequently broadened into providing anti-piracy and consultative services. These were based on the belief that armed guards are not always the solution, especially if a proper risk assessment is carried out, crews trained and appropriate measures implemented. “

“This model has served our customers well in the Indian Ocean, off West Africa and around Central America.  We have also shared our hard won expertise by leading sector-specific industry steering groups.  Notwithstanding, we feel that the market is changing and IMSA’s Board has decided that the company will close its doors as the year comes to an end.  Many thanks to all our friends, customers and colleagues for their valued support over the years”

I would like to pass on my thanks to IMSA for the opportunity to enter the Maritime Industry. Special thanks to my old friend John, and to Nick for his help and sound information given. I am glad to say we still remain friends, even though we don’t see each other enough. Thanks.
