US Navy Chief stirs hornet’s nest on South China Sea

LANGKAWI: The Commander of the US Navy’s 7th Fleet, stirring a hornet’s nest on the South China Sea, has suggested that countries in the region form a combined maritime force to monitor their waters which are being disputed by China and where tensions flare up. China is the largest trading partner of the 10-nation Asean bloc.

Vice Admiral Robert Thomas, citing counter piracy efforts in the Gulf of Aden as a case in point, was speaking during a panel session with navy chiefs on the sidelines of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition.
