A Botched Operation

Chiemelie Ezeobi writes on the foiled pirate attack on a vessel conveying the much needed petroleum products in Nigerian waters.

When Shola Sama and his accomplices planned to hijack an oil vessel and sell off the proceeds, their strategy was simple; target the vessel, swop in, overpower the crew and then take over the vessel.

However seamless their plan was on paper, they did not take one thing into cognizance; the personnel of the Nigerian Navy patrolling the waterways.

On that fateful day, Sama alongside nine members of his gang succeeded in overpowering the marked vessel, MT IMAS, and had even boarded it before their carefully laid-out plans went awry.

Their attempts to escape was aborted by the personnel of the Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy, who foiled their attempt to hijack a refined petroleum-laden vessel sailing into Nigeria.
