Government considering proposal from Somalia for ‘plea bargain’ for 120 pirates

NEW DELHI: India is considering a proposal from Somalia for a “plea bargain” for 120 pirates, including a few dreaded warlords, who were arrested in 2011 and are facing a trial in Maharashtra, a move that comes shortly after the Narendra Modi government went soft in the case against the Italian marines.

Under the proposed plea bargain agreement, the accused will get to admit their guilt without going through a trial in exchange for lesser punishment.
