Navy positions against pirates, oil thieves

Nigerian Navy said it has put machinery necessary to keep pirates and sea criminals out of the country’s maritime domain in motion.

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, who made the disclosure, said the training of the force’s personnel on surveillance techniques, through the use of the Regional Maritime Awareness Capabilities (RMAC) equipment would help track pirates who always attacked vessels within the country’s territorial waters.

Ango spoke during the graduation of 10 naval personnel, who were trained on the use of RMAC equipment. He said the recently concluded multinational maritime exercise commonly referred to as OBANGAME EXPRESS captured the essence of the entire training the personnel went through, adding that the essence was to keep sea criminals and pirates away from the nation’s territorial waters.
