JK commissions two navy patrol ships to help in fighting piracy

President Jakaya Kikwete yesterday commissioned two patrol ships to boost the Navy in the ongoing fight against piracy.

The ships, which were given by the Chinese government, will also be used in protecting Tanzania’s sea resources. It is hoped that they will greatly reduce Tanzania’s dependence on foreign war ships for support.

Christened Mwitongo P77 and Msoga P78, the ships are key to protecting the country’s sea borders and combating the theft of sea resources.

Hitherto Tanzania failed to do so due to lack of well equipped and modern war ships.
