Piracy laws set for amendment

Government will amend judicial laws to enable the judiciary to deal with piracy related cases reported in the country’s Indian Ocean coast waters.

The decision comes after the European Union failed to implement an earlier agreement on prison construction to allow Tanzania to have prisons to meet international standards.

Such prisons would accommodate the pirates, but also help train investigators and security agencies to handle pirate related cases.
