Anti-piracy force plan for the Gulf

Bahrain backed a call to establish a special maritime force to tackle growing problems of pirates attacking fishermen working in the Gulf region, said a report in Gulf Daily News.

Bahrain Fishermen Union chief executive Mohamed Al-Faraj supported a proposal submitted to the United Nations by India-based non-governmental organisation Tamil Nadu Fishermen Development Trust (TNFIDET). The draft plan follows reports of several deaths and kidnappings of expatriate fishermen, who work in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, while at sea.
