Maldives takes unprecedented security measures after boat blast

Army was seen Tuesday taking unprecedented measures to beef up the security of the president and vice president in what has been a major security shakeup after an explosion on a speedboat carrying the president late last month.

In a rare sight, officers from the Maldives National Defence Force’s (MNDF) Special Protection Group (SPG), which is tasked with the security of state officials, were seen carrying explosive detection checks at the official jetty in capital Male before Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor’s departure to the airport Sunday morning.
