15th MEU Marines participate in CARAT – Brunei 2015

USS ANCHORAGE – Elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are scheduled to participate in bilateral training exercise Combined Afloat Readiness and Training – Brunei with the Royal Brunei Land Forces from November 10 – 12 in Tutong, Brunei.

The Marines participating in the course are from the 15th MEU’s Force Reconnaissance Detachment and India Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. The Marines will be training with Company C, 3rd Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Forces.

The Marines and RBLF forces will train in military operations in urban terrain, urban patrolling and breaching, room clearing, and establishing vehicle checkpoints. The courses will include both day and night phases to improve their ability to operate in all conditions.

In addition to individual and unit training, this course provides an opportunity to enhance interoperability and partnership between the U.S. and Brunei, and address shared maritime security challenges.

The training will culminate in a farewell ceremony to commemorate the strengthened partnership between the two nations.

This evolution is part of the 21st iteration of the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) between the United States Navy and Marine Corps and the armed forces of nine partner nations in South and Southeast Asia, including Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

The 15th MEU provides a forward deployed, flexible sea-base Marine air-ground task force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response and limited contingency operations, to include designed special operations, in order to support the theater requirements of geographic combatant commanders. The 15th MEU is currently deployed aboard the ships of Essex Amphibious Ready Group.
