IMB only reports incidents logged with them. Under-reporting is rife in West Africa.

Attacks Off Nigeria Drive Sea Kidnappings Up By Over 50%

As a result of five attacks off Nigeria, kidnappings on sea more than doubled from 9 in 2014 to 19 in 2015, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Maritime Bureau (IMB) said in its annual piracy report.

The ICC IMB added that piracy and armed robbery on the world’s seas are persisting at levels close to those in 2014, despite reductions in the number of ships hijacked and crew captured.
