The Defence Secretary’s pledge that the UK is ready to respond to “any threat” aims to send a strong message to Britain’s enemies.

Britain To Double Naval Commitment To NATO

Britain is to double its naval commitment to NATO “to send a strong message to our enemies” the Defence Secretary will announce today.

Michael Fallon, in Brussels for a NATO Defence Ministers meeting, will say the UK is “ready to respond to any threat, and defend our allies”.

For the first time since 2010 the Royal Navy will contribute to NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 1.
