Armed police marshals could soon be deployed on British cross Channel ferries amid fears of a terrorist strike.

The plain-clothed officers would patrol dozens of boats carrying thousands of commuters, tourists and hauliers every day.Government officials are working with their French counterparts to ensure the officers operate within the law on both sides of the Channel.
