Urgent need for landing craft to strengthen enforcement: MMEA

KUCHING: There is an urgent need for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) to acquire a “landing craft” to strengthen enforcement operations following a drastic increase in the number of foreign fishermen boats in the country’s waters, especially from Vietnam.

Sarawak Region Maritime director First Admiral Ismaili Bujang Pit said a more effective method was required to increase operational efficiency to curb the intrusion by foreign fishermen, who steal the country’s marine wealth.
