Pirates release crew from ST Sierra Leyre

Off the coast of Nigeria, a ship from the Groningen shipping company Seatrade was hijacked in February by a group of heavily armed robbers. Four crew members were thereby taken hostage and kidnapped.

The foursome – three Russians and one Filipino – were held for two and a half weeks. They were released unharmed a few days ago. Whether or not ransom is paid for their release, Seatrade spokesman Cor Radings does not want to say. “There has been contact with the kidnappers that has led to a dialogue and ultimately to release.”
