Fishermen lament frequent attacks by pirates in A’Ibom

Fishermen in Ibeno, a community in Akwa Ibom State, have raised the alarm over frequent attacks and seizure of their fishing boats by the pirates operating on the waterways.

They complained that for the past six weeks, no single day passed without such attacks and that they had lost over 40 outboard engines to the hoodlums. According to a source, the pirates sometimes demand between N150,000 and N200,000 in exchange for each outboard engine they steal.
