Philippines Coast Guard Deploys New Fast Patrol Boat to Southwestern Mindanao

March 30: The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed one of the 4 newly acquired French Fast Patrol boats to southwestern Mindanao.

Customs Commissioner Ret. Gen. Leonardo Rey Guerrero said BRP Malamawi, which arrived here Friday, will be used in anti-smuggling operations.

The vessel is powered with 2 diesel engines, can attain a maximum speed of 32 knots, and can accommodate 12 crew.

Commodore Joseph Coyme of the Southwestern Mindanao District said the arrival of the boat will be a big help since it will also be used to transport election supplies for the May midterm polls.

“I will optimize the utilization of this vessel, of course, with the commitment that all our election materials are well secured,” he said.
