Morocco Arrests Five For Human Smuggling Near Nador

May 02: The Moroccan security services, in coordination with Spanish counterparts, have arrested five people for organizing illegal immigration and human trafficking, the Moroccan police said Thursday.

The first suspect, wanted nationally for facilitating illegal immigration, was arrested driving a bus carrying five people from sub-Saharan African nations, the police said in a statement.

Follow-up investigations led to the arrests of four accomplices from the northern city of Nador and the neighboring town of Bni Oukil for being linked to the same network operating in the country’s northern shores.

During the police operations, a number of vehicles and equipment suspected of being used by the suspects were seized, including 9 inflatable boats, 12 engines for these boats, 2 cars, and mechanical and electronic sea navigation equipment.

The suspects were remanded in police custody, as investigations are underway to shed light on the network and to nab all suspects involved, the police said.
