ReCAAP Reports on 3 Incidents in Asia in April 2019

May 10: The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has issued its report on the piracy and sea robbery situation in Asia in April 2019. The full report can be downloaded on the ReCAAP ISC website.

The report summarizes that, “A total of three incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in April 2019. There was no report of abduction of crew in the Sulu-Celebes Seas and waters o Eastern Sabah; and no hijacking of ships for theft of oil cargo reported in April 2019. However, the abduction of crew for ransom in the Sulu-Celebes Seas and waters o Eastern Sabah remains a serious concern.”
