Brazilian Authorities Seize 808kg of Cocaine Amongst Banana Shipment at Suape Port

June 21: Brazil’s Federal Revenue Office seized 808.2 kilos of cocaine hidden within a cargo of bananas at the port of Suape in the greater Recife region on Friday at approx. 16:00 LT. According to Customs, this is the largest narcotics seizure at Suape Port.

Customs officials discovered the narcotics during an inspection of three containers, at which point a scanner detected irregularities in one container that prompted a closer inspection.

The cocaine was tightly packed in plastic bags wrapped in coffee powder. Coffee powder is often used to attempt to foil detection dogs.
