Chinese Customs Seize 1,500 Tonnes of Contraband Frozen Food at Tangshan Port

June 28: Customs in Shijiazhuang, the capital city of northern China’s Hebei Province, seized over 1,500 tonnes of frozen food worth 50 million yuan (7.27 million U.S. dollars), local customs said Thursday.

The customs arrested eight suspects and confiscated 52 containers at the port of Tangshan in the province on June 28.

The food, including frozen beef and beef tripes, was smuggled from the Republic of Korea on June 21.

Further investigation is underway.
