UK Military to Escort All British-Flagged Vessels Through Strait of Hormuz

July 25: The U.K. has announced that the Royal Navy will begin escorting all British-flagged sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between the U.K. and Iran, which recently spiked with the Iranian seizure of a British-flagged oil tanker in the Strait. British officials reported that the Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose had escorted 30 vessels in 17 transits since 22 July. Approximately 20% of the global oil supply must transit this Strait.
