Another Reported Scrap Metal Theft From Barge in Westbound Lane of TSS in Singapore Strait

August 12: At approx. 20:51 LT while underway to Port Klang from Sarawak, an unknown number of perpetrators boarded the barge PERMATA 2 (being towed by tug boat PERMATA 1) from a small boat. The unauthorized persons stole an unspecified amount of scrap metal and ropes from the barge before escaping. The master raised the alarm and reported the incident to Singapore’s VTIS via the VHF. Crew reported safe.

The incident occured approx. 4.3 nm south of Tanjung Piai, Johor, Malaysia, in the westbound lane of TSS in Singapore Strait (1° 13.66′ N, 103° 30.08′ E).
