North Korea Launches Missiles From South Hamgyong Province Into Sea of Japan

August 10: At approximately 0530 local time on 10 August (2030 UTC on 9 August) 2019, the North Korean military fired two projectiles from an area near the city of Hamhung, located approximately 190 km (120 mi) northeast of Pyongyang, into the Sea of Japan. The South Korean military reported that the projectiles were likely short-range ballistic missiles, which flew east a distance of 400 km before they crashed into the sea. North Korean officials have complained that joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises violate previous agreements.
