Four Firearms Seized From Yacht and French National Arrested in Bizerte, Tunisia

October 29: Customs authorities detained a French national after uncovering four firearms [three pistols and a revolver] and their ammunition, during a routine search of his yacht in waters off Bizerte, north-eastern Tunisia. The yacht was searched while attempting to enter Bizerte marina. Authorities are likely to charge the man with weapons smuggling after he failed to declare the presence of weapons on board. Arms are routinely seized by customs services on boats docking in Tunisian ports. On 23 October, customs units in the town of Sfax seized sabers and firearms in a container owned by a French citizen. A few weeks earlier, the Maritime Brigade of Mahdia (East) seized some 16,000 shotgun cartridges on board an Italian ship, Hamdi Akacha reported.
