Offshore Supply Vessel Near Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico Attacked; 2 Crew Wounded During Armed Robbery

November 11: Italian offshore supply ship REMAS with 35 people on board was attacked by approx. 7-8 armed pirates in two fast boats in the Gulf of Mexico, north of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. The unauthorized persons boarded the vessel, and in a resulting “skirmish” with the crew, two Italian crew members were wounded with non-life threatening injuries. The attackers robbed the ship and crew, before escaping. The injured seamen were transferred to hospital, while REMAS moved to Ciudad del Carmen anchorage and anchored.

The incident occurred one week after an oil platform near Tabasco was attacked.
