Oil Platform Near Tabasco, Mexico Attacked and Boarded in Armed Robbery

November 04, approx. 21:00 LT: An unspecified number of persons in boats with outboard motors attacked the INDEPENDENCIA oil platform located approximately an hour from Paraíso, Tabasco (Mexico). The pirates fired upon the platform, threatening employees, and climbed aboard the platform via its stairs. The pirates further threatened the crew, and temporarily tied several of them up, but no one was injured during the incident. After the master made an announcement on the loudspeakers that the Navy was on its way, the pirates escaped with food stores. The Navy arrived within approximately one hour, and the incident is being investigated. The platform is owned by Grupo Carso.
